– Lucy Lee (Grade 12)
The TIS Secondary Players successfully performed their first show of the year, “Cinderella and the Substitute Fairy Godmother”, to a full house in the Black Box Theatre over two consecutive nights. But behind this success, a group of students have worked diligently for months to make this show a marketing success.
The Marketing Team, under the instructions of Ms. Peggy Fok, have learned to apply their marketing knowledge and skills in real life and had an authentic marketing experience through advertising this drama production. After learning various advertising strategies and analyzing the target audience, they decided that print posters and social media were the best options they had to attract attention to the play for their target audience: students and parents of TIS.
Posters and brochures were designed by the multimedia students and were sent to the Marketing Team for evaluation. The Marketing Team learned the principles of effective advertising, and chose the best poster and brochure designs that would most effectively sell the play. They wrote a lengthy marketing plan outlining what was to be actioned each day. Punchy headlines were periodically posted on the social media along with photos and short videos of the show to entice more interest. The team then sold tickets during and after school for weeks prior to the show, and thanks to their hard work, a huge crowd turned up on the both nights of the drama performance.
It is fantastic to see different students using their knowledge and working with one another to bring out the best in each other. Well done to both the drama and marketing team!
