Although the school year has finished, the hallways of TIS are anything but quiet. The sound of drills, hammers and saws can be heard on most floors as renovations and facility improvements move into high gear. Some of the major projects include:
1) Upgrade of the CCTV security system – more cameras are being added and some of the existing cameras are being relocated to better monitor school areas.
2) Front field and basketball court construction – a brand new elementary playground (where the skatepark is currently located) will be ready for students at the beginning of the school year. It will feature play equipment, a large cargo net and climbing apparatus to encourage physical movement and adventure. The area will also have new games, such as hopscotch, painted on the concrete to motivate students to be active. In addition, the climbing wall currently located behind the MPR will be moved to the new playground area. Change room facilities with showers and lockers will be built at the far end of the front field.
3) Construction of wooden decking – the addition of a deck running the length of the artificial soccer pitch will cover the white rocks between the Kindergarten playground and soccer pitch.
4) Rooftop repair – TIS is in the final year of a 3-year project to repair the school roof. This summer, the area above the main office will receive a new waterproof layer.
5) Painting – all classrooms and hallways on the 3rd and 4th floors will get a fresh coat of paint.
6) New Classroom – to meet the need for more classroom space, rooms 325 and 326 have been renovated to make one large classroom on the third floor.
7) Renovation of Chemistry Lab – new blinds and new cabinets have been installed.
8) New Physics Lab – Rm 516 has been renovated to become a physics lab complete with new furniture including large laboratory tables, lab stools and cabinets to promote safe, hands-on learning.
Stay tuned for more photos of our summer renovations!
