In keeping with traditional Chinese practices, Ming Shun Construction Ltd. (the company building Phase ll of the TIS campus) held an official blessing of the grounds where the new five-storey wing will stand. The ceremony began with the lighting of joss sticks as an offering to the spirits and gods that are believed to inhabit the space.
This was followed by the burning of joss paper (also known as ghost or spirit money), firecrackers and an offering of food (roast pig and chicken as well as fruit). Today’s ceremony represents the official “birthday” of Phase ll according to Chinese customs.
In attendance at today’s event was Mr. KL Tong, Vice Rector of MUST and member of the TIS Board of Governors; Mr. Sam Kuan of MUST; Mr. Stribbell, Mr. Spreadbury, Mr. Hryhirchuk and Ms. Lao from TIS, as well as officials and workers from Ming Shun Construction.
