It’s happening! Phase ll construction will be getting underway in January 2016! The new five story wing will feature 12,500 square metres of much-needed classroom and school space, increasing our overall capacity to 1,600 students. It will feature state-of-the-art facilities including:
- A 2-story library
- Purpose built classrooms for kindergarten and high school students
- Multi-purpose room
- Theatre/auditorium
- Additional music, drama and computer labs
- Discovery centre
- Covered playgrounds
Fencing around the construction zone will be erected over the Christmas holidays, and will have a significant impact on traffic flow and parking around the school. Here are some of the changes that will be in effect for the first day back to school on Monday, January 4th:
- Kiss ‘N Ride will be located on the road between TIS and MUST Stadium (one-way only). A pedestrian walkway from the road to the Kiss ‘N Ride glass doors will be constructed for easy access to the school. In addition, extra TIS staff will be on duty to assist with the new routine.
- There will be no parking on the TIS campus due to the construction fencing, however, parking will be available on the MUST campus near the library and in the parking lot located between the gymnasium and hospital.
- Two additional gates will be in use during Phase ll construction to facilitate easier access to the school campus.
TIS is committed to minimizing the effect that construction will have on the educational environment and our school community. It is important to note that unavoidable disruptions may occur, but it will be a temporary inconvenience for a long term improvement.
Stay tuned for more news and updates about Phase ll construction in the new year.
