In kindergarten this year, we initiated a new program called ‘Kindy Cuppa Chat’. This is a program through which parents and kindergarten teachers can come together to talk about issues and topics relevant to early childhood. In our first session, we talked about the importance of play for learning and how young children learn through play. Our second session focused on art in early childhood education. We discussed the importance of art for creative, language and social development of young learners. Additionally, we engaged in a collaborative art activity whereby we shared some basic art skills that we teach our kindergarten children and enabled the parents to practically experience the value of doing collaborative art for personal and social development.
