TIS will be opening its doors to prospective families this Saturday, February 18th. The school’s annual Open House gives new students and their parents an opportunity to learn more about TIS and gain a better understanding of our curriculum, programs and facilities.
Information sessions about the elementary and secondary programs will be held in the MPR, followed by guided tours of the campus. The schedule is as follows:
9:00 am: Pre-K to Grade 6 Presentation, followed by Q&A session.
10:00 am: Secondary School Presentation
10:45 am: Secondary School Tour (including Boarding House)
In addition to the presentations, there are a number of activities and performances scheduled during Open House. Here’s a look at what’s planned:
South Wing
9:00-12:00: Students in the spring primary musical, Dr Dolittle, will be practicing in Room 3080.
9:30-12:00: High school art students will be painting and showcasing their work in Room 4020.
North Wing
Black Box Theatre
9:30-10:30 am: Come and watch members of the Secondary Players act out scenes from their upcoming spring production of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
10:45-11:45 am: Listen to Gr 8 & 9 students play a selection of music.
Art Installations
1) “Tree of Life” – Located in the new library, this art piece created by grade two students will span the 2nd and 3rd floors of the library.
2) “Underwater World” – This water-themed work of art is located on the wall directly across from the Head of School office on the 3rd floor and was completed by the Grade 4 classes.
3) Inspired by glass artist Dale Chihuly, grade 3 students created a dazzling three-dimensional piece made of plastic bottles, foil and tissue paper.
4) Students selected to participate in TIS’ monthly enrichment afternoon run by the Inclusive Department made Chinese Zodiac animals using recycled apple boxes. You can see their work on the stairwell between the 1st and 2nd floors.
