Liz Spittal-ELL Specialist

Posted on March 26, 2019

It’s been a week since TIS has had the privilege of having Liz Spittal onsite working with our ELL staff and student and sharing her expertise in the field. For Liz, it has been a very busy and invigorating week in Macau. Liz said “It’s been a privilege to observe instruction and converse with educators at an incredible international school. It is wonderful to work with leaders and staff who are already doing great work and yet are looking to further improve. Oh, and they’re also fine and fun-loving hosts. I’m looking forward to my next and final week in Macau.”

While she is here, Liz has a few mandates she hopes to accomplish.

1) an external strength-based capacity development assessment/perspective with concern to the current programming and instruction for English Language Learners (ELLs) at TIS.

2) This will be conducted through:

  • Interviews/discussions with administrators
  • Interviews/discussions with ELL teachers
  • Interviews/discussions with curriculum teachers
  • Observations of classrooms
  • Reviews of policies and programming
  • Summaries of information for School Administrators’/Staff Future Use for Goal Setting
  • Reports written by ELL specialist detailing observations and summaries of admin and staff input.

About Liz: I have had the privilege of being an educator in a K-12 public district in Calgary for 34 years. My leadership experience has been both school-based and system-based. I’m so fortunate to have been recognized through local, provincial, and international awards. My system work has included designing instruction with K-12 teachers in all subject areas, and most recently as a specialist/System A.P on behalf of English Language Learners. I have a Master’s Degree in TESL. Education is my religion-it is my best hope for all of our children and facilitating learning for educators and children in Canada and abroad is my passion.
