By Rovanna Bawden, Student Support Department Head
All children need to know and feel that they are loved. As parents, we are the key contributors to our own child’s success in school and in life.
TIS is launching Parent Circle discussions and information sessions to encourage conversation on a number of topics which may be of interest to TIS parents. It’s an opportunity to meet other like minded parents in the community and to share your ideas and thoughts. As the Support Services Head newly appointed at TIS, I would like to open this forum to encourage our professional knowledge of best practice as parents and as educators.
The first topic for this term is How to Talk to Your Child: The Best Strategies for Effective Communication on Thursday, September 22 at 8:45 am in the Secondary Library.
The discussion will centre on how to effectively communicate with your child. It may seem obvious; however, we often shut our children down and end up in a constant loop of saying the same thing over and over again. That’s not talking, or more importantly, not listening. We will watch a short video and have a healthy discussion on how to talk to our kids and how we can do it better.
We will have to limit the numbers to these events to 25 parents. If you are interested in joining us, please RSVP by filling out this form. Parent Circles will be held twice each term.
