Last month, we featured a story about Demi Mak, a TIS grad who is attending the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on a golf scholarship. This month, we’re profiling her sister, Ginger Mak (Class of 2010), whose talents on the golf course also scored her a scholarship, at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virgina. Currently in her fourth year at JMU, Ginger is pursuing a major in Justice, with a concentration in Crime and Criminology. “I really do enjoy it. It is very interesting, Justice studies is a great field.” Far from CSI-type work, it involves laws, theories, crime rates, and research, which Ginger finds all interesting.
In addition to her studies, Ginger is also a key member of the golf team, which involves travelling around the country to various tournaments and sometimes missing three or more days of classes. “While I’m on the road, there is no time for slacking because extensions barely happen and I have to hand in assignments or take tests before I leave for a tournament.” Despite this, Ginger has only positive things to say about her university golf career. “It has been an amazing experience so far. I get to competively play in a sport that I love and meet new people. I’ve had a lot of fun.” This past spring, Ginger won the Colonial Athletic Association Conference Championship alongside her school’s golf team, advancing them to the NCAA East Regionals Championship in Alabama.
After graduating from JMU this coming spring, she is considering a job in the field of law or law research. There is also the option of further studies, however, she is still deciding which field to swing into.
