By Michael Veith (Class of ’12)
I used to be a former student at TIS; now I’m a employee of the school. Yes, you heard that right! The school has given me a desk in the main office. Don’t expect my photo to be on the website though, seeing as its only a summer job and ends at the end of July. However, during this time, I’m taking advantage of the perks, including staff coffee and the exclusive staff bathroom! This is a job of course, and I have several tasks to complete before my time here is finished. Among them is some design work, creating event posters as well as the school’s virtue banners for next year. Also, as many of you have heard, I’m working on alumni content for the new alumni section on the TIS blog (that’s where you are right now). I spend my time talking to alumni, either in person or chatting on Facebook, about what they’re doing right now and what has been happening in their life. Our goal is to connect with alumni and share their stories with the TIS community. Starting next week, we’ll be posting stories about what our former grads have been up to since leaving TIS. But first, a quick update about what I have been up to this past year.
I have just finished my first year at Canadian Mennonite University in Winnipeg. This past year I didn’t declare my major and instead took a whole variety of different first and second year courses, including sociology, history, theology, film studies, and communications and media. This coming year, I will return to CMU and declare a major in history and a minor in Communications and Media, and Biblical Literature and Themes (BTS). I am also looking forward to returning to my university dormitory where I will be one of the Resident Assistants, helping to manage and lead the dormitory population.
