You can tell by the beautiful artwork on display in the art room and in hallways around the school that there is real talent here at TIS. In fact, TIS has been a stepping stone for some very skilled students, such as Jenny Mai (Class of 2014) who has gone on to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in British Columbia, Canada.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced at university so far?
The biggest challenge so far is time management. As I’m studying art, I have to spend hours on a single piece of art for each course’s project every week. If time wasn’t organized properly and wisely, it would be a painful period of life. I have just learned a good lesson when I could only sleep four hours a day when two different projects were both due the day after.
What are your best memories of TIS and in what ways do you think TIS prepared you for university?
The CALM course helps students to prepare for university a lot. It is practical and keeps students thinking about their future. TIS hosts university fairs every year for students in order to be exposed to different universities around the world. There is also a good counsellor, Ms Hubert, who helps students to get in to the best universities possible.
What advice would you give to the grade 12 students who will be going to university next year?
Believe in yourself and you can do it!
What are your plans going forward?
I am hoping to get in the Illustration major and work my way out as an illustrator, but actually, I would love to do any job that relates to art.
