Earlier today at 3:45 p.m., the fire alarm went off at TIS. Despite being in extra curricular activities, sports practices and tutoring, students, staff and parents were evacuated quickly and efficiently to the front field.
The office support team quickly isolated the location of the alarm; it had been triggered by smouldering food in a classroom. The classroom windows were opened and the small amount of smoke was quickly dissipated. People were allowed back into the school at 4 p.m.
Thank-you to everyone for adhering to our fire alarm evacuation procedures that we practice regularly throughout the year. The Health and Safety Committee will review the cause of the fire and the after-school evacuation procedures to ensure that we are as prepared as possible should a similar incident arise in the future.
