What started out as a way of convincing their classmates that they should be responsible for keeping the environment clean turned into a massive event last week that was attended by everyone in Division 2!
Five girls from grade 5-3 (known as the Fab Five) took it upon themselves to organize a Coloane Clean-Up field trip. They went to each of the division 2 classes and presented their plan, researched areas in Macau that were known to have the most litter, made posters, arranged meetings with administrators and office staff, organized the logistics and led over 200 students at the event.
The idea for the clean-up stemmed from an Inquiry Circle to generate questions related to a wetlands unit in science. From there, students were invited to pursue their own questions and come up with a plan of action. In addition to the clean-up, grade 5 students also made videos, wrote blogs, made websites and wrote stories. That’s what you call inquiry in action!
