Last week, middle school and high school students went on their experience week trips to various countries around the world. The countries on this year’s itinerary included Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Laos, Russia, New York, Philippines, Hong Kong, Spain and Portugal.
Students had the opportunity to experience the country’s local culture, food and way of life. Most importantly, they were able to give back to the community wherever they visited. For example, Grade 8 students went to the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, an elephant rescue and rehabilitation centre. They helped with bathing and feeding the elephants and learned about their tragic stories. High school students who travelled to Laos helped to build a foundation for a house in a small village.
Some students stayed in Macau and assisted teachers in the elementary classes at TIS, while others did community work at local homes for the elderly, and with people with special needs
All students gained valuable insights and new experiences from their trips, whether it was abroad or here in Macau.
