Chinese New Year Festivities

Posted on January 23, 2020

By Howard Tong, Grade 12

Last Friday, the Chinese department hosted a Chinese Festival throughout the day for students and parents to celebrate Chinese New Year in advance. There were Chinese themed performances including the lion dance, dragon dance, and even Chinese poetry recitals by teachers from multiple departments. In preparation for the event, Chinese teacher Sarah Ip organized the high school performers into groups and choreographed the lion and dragon dance performances. They started rehearsing for the Chinese Festival weeks before the Christmas break and continued on till the day of the event.

Other activities that day included Chinese shadow puppets, Chinese Jianzi, traditional tea ceremony and handmade dumplings. Special gratitude to our Chinese department for organizing and running such a fun and festive event annually. Thank you to all students who performed and helped out during the event, and to all staff who helped with set up and logistics of the event.

Happy Lunar New Year to all! Gong Xi Fa Cai!
