Bring Your Own Device

Posted on November 17, 2014

What does BYOD mean?

BYOD means that students are encouraged to bring their own mobile devices to school for educational purposes. This device can be a laptop, an iPad or other tablet, and/or a Chromebook. If you are unsure whether your child’s device will be suitable for classroom use, please feel free to check with their teacher.

Why BYOD?

BYOD allows us to give students a choice in their use of technology. Having choice is essential for our students and using a personal device will lead to increased student engagement, it will foster responsibility and it will also help to develop collaborative learning skills. High student engagement leads to improved student success. Personal devices also allow students to learn anytime, anywhere.

Things to know about BYOD

  • in the classroom devices are to be used only with the permission and direction of the teacher. Technology will not be used every day or for every lesson
