Well known author Madeleine Thien will be speaking to grade 9 students on Friday, March 10 from 10-11 am in the Black Box Theatre. The visit is sponsored by the Macau Literary Festival. Consul General Jeff Nankivell from the Consulate General of Canada in Hong Kong & Macao will also be in attendance.
Thien is the author of the story collection Simple Recipes and three novels, including Dogs at the Perimeter. Her most recent book, Do Not Say We Have Nothing, was shortlisted for the 2016 Man Booker Prize and won the Scotiabank Giller Prize and the Governor-General’s Literary Award for Fiction. The novel was named by the New York Times Critics Top Book of 2016 and longlisted for the Carnegie Medal for Fiction.
Madeleine’s work has been translated into twenty-five languages and her essays are widely available in The Guardian, the Globe & Mail, Brick, The New York Times and Al Jazeera. Madeleine is the youngest daughter of Malaysian-Chinese immigrants to Canada and lives in Montreal.
