We are very pleased to be able to share some recent developments in the administrative team for next year in light of Phase ll opening and the continued growth at TIS.
Secondary Principal
As mentioned in a previous post, Mr. Chris Coates will be stepping into the position of Secondary Principal. Mr. Coates has been an educator for over two decades and served in the public, independent, and international school systems in Canada and Hong Kong. He spent the past 13 years at the Canadian International School of Hong Kong where he worked as a teacher, grade leader, and mostly recently as Upper School Vice Principal. He has been filling the vital role as TIS’ Student Services Department head since January.
Elementary Vice Principal
Mrs. Amanda Kiat will expand her role from the Gr 4-6 Division Coordinator to the Elementary School Vice Principal (Gr 1-6). Given Mrs. Reis’ retirement, we have thought very carefully about how to best meet our elementary students, teachers and staff needs, and are very excited that Mrs. Kiat will able to work full-time as the Elementary VP.
Secondary Division Coordinators to Become Vice Principals
The responsibilities of the division coordinators have grown in scope and depth considerably since the positions were first implemented seven years ago. The Board of Directors has agreed on renaming the positions to Vice Principals to better reflect the responsibilities being performed. As such, Mr. Ian Jefferson will become the Middle School Vice Principal while Mr. Martin Brown will take on the role for High School. The positions will consist of half time administration and half time teaching responsibilities. Mr. Jefferson and Mr. Brown are both long term TIS teachers who bring a wealth of experience to their positions.
Early Childhood Education Coordinator
Mr. Nick Chignall will be assuming the Early Childhood Education Coordinator position. Mr. Chignall has been an elementary teacher at TIS for the past four years and has proven his leadership skills throughout his time with us.
Gratitude and Good-Byes
At this time, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to a number of leadership team members who will be leaving us at the end of this school year.
Ms. Karen Holmes has been instrumental in developing our Kindergarten program over the past few years. Fortunately, she will continue to share her expertise as she will be involved periodically at TIS. Mrs. Sandi Reis has been an integral part of the elementary school program as the coordinator for Division 1 and will be sorely missed. Mr. Marcel Ouellette has had a positive impact at TIS as the Division 4 coordinator; his departure will be a loss for both his students and colleagues.
After nine years at TIS, Secondary Principal Mr. David Spreadbury and his wife Yvonne will be returning to Alberta to spend more time with their children and grandchildren. They have made invaluable contributions to the School and its success over the years. Mr. Spreadbury will continue his connections with TIS by assisting in our annual staff recruitment in Canada and liaising with Alberta Education.
I’m sure you all join me in wishing them the very best in their retirements or new adventures and thank them for their many years of service at TIS.
