It is my pleasure to welcome everyone to what will be another exciting school year at The International School (TIS) of Macau. TIS is a pre-kindergarten to grade 12 school, where our mission is to develop socially responsible, lifelong learners able to problem solve, think critically, and make positive changes in our global community. We are accredited by the Education Ministry of Alberta, Canada and our graduates receive a high school diploma that is recognized by universities around the world. At TIS, we offer the Alberta curriculum and the International Baccalaureate (IB) program for our high school students as a program of choice. A new school year is always an exciting time for everyone. It brings many opportunities; new classes, new faces, busy schedules and many choices. TIS is a positive and supportive school with the best interest of all of our students as our priority. It is my honor and privilege to be taking over for Mr. Stribbell to lead a school that has an excellent reputation for providing high quality education and outstanding extra-curricular experiences for all students. It is my belief that school staff, parents, guardians, and volunteers must collaborate as an effective team to create a nurturing environment. I encourage open communication between home and school at all times. If you have a comment, question or concern, please do not hesitate to contact us; I know our staff will extend the same courtesy. On behalf of the staff at TIS, I extend my wishes for a successful and fulfilling school year. Mark Lockwood Head of School

As someone new to TIS, I have been impressed by its culture of holistic education and the professional and collaborative approach engendered by the school. I look forward to working with students, parents, teachers and all members of the TIS community in continuing the excellent learning opportunities offered here. My experience as an educator includes 15 years of teaching Mathematics and Science to secondary aged students in Alberta, Canada, followed by 15+ years of teaching in international schools in Shanghai and Singapore. For the past 12 years in Singapore, I was the High School (Grade 9-12) Deputy Principal and IB Diploma Coordinator at a relatively large school that offered IB MYP and IGCSE to Grade 9 and 10 students and IB Diploma programmes to Grade 11 and 12 students. I look forward to developing the TIS IB Diploma programme and incorporating the best of educational practices into our TIS Alberta-based curriculum, to continue with the school’s mission to cultivate the skills and attitudes that enable lifelong learning and caring for the community.

"I look forward to continuing to build the ELL program for elementary students here at TIS as well as assisting teachers in the development of personalized learning models for all students."
I came to TIS Macau seven years ago after working in a large, public school board in Alberta for 22 years. In my first 15 years as a classroom teacher I taught grades 1-5 in a variety of schools, learning a great deal about students and families and how we work together to support all students to be successful at school every day. I spent the next seven years with the same board in several administrative roles, working with PK - grade 8 students, teachers and administrators creating systems and programs to support learners of all ages with diverse educational, cultural and linguistic backgrounds in their local community schools. The years have flown by since I first came to TIS, and I continue to be excited everyday in our work with creative and intelligent young students who care about their community, school and planet. Their drive to learn, support each other, and contribute meaningfully to the world beyond the classroom is inspiring and I can't imagine myself leading any other school. I am thankful for the opportunity to come to TIS everyday and look forward to observing and supporting the continued growth of the students, staff and school in the years ahead.

I am so thrilled to be part of the TIS community. Our family arrived from Alberta, Canada in 2010 and planned to stay for two years. It’s been nearly nine years here at TIS and every day I feel blessed to be a part of such a warm and welcoming community. I have a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada, and a Masters of Education in Leadership and Administration from HKU. This is my nineteenth year as an educator and I love nothing more than spending my days with kids! Besides being passionate about the TIS community, I love hiking and exercise, eating excessive amounts of delicious food (hence the love of exercise), camping, reading, traveling, and spending as much time as I can with my kids Kylisha and Kaidyn, Mr.Kiat (my awesome husband), and any and all animals.

This is my third year at TIS and my first as Middle School Vice Principal. After graduating from Cardiff Metropolitan University with a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science and a PGCE in Secondary Physical Education 8 years ago, I moved away from Wales and since then I’ve lived and worked in China, Hong Kong and Macau. I was Head of PE at my previous school for 4 years. I have recently started a MSc in Educational Leadership and Management through the University of Portsmouth and I am very much looking forward to applying my knowledge as the Middle School Vice Principal at TIS. I strongly believe that Education should be holistic and focus on improving the “whole” child. Developing resilience and building character are fundamental to a child’s development and participation in co curricular activities and service/volunteer activities can help to grow tomorrow’s leaders.

I am excited to continue on as part of the leadership team in my role as the High School Vice Principal. Originally from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, I've taught Chemistry, Science and Math in various locations around the world, including Korea, Ontario, Trinidad, China, Egypt and now Macau. This variety of locations, cultures and experiences have opened my eyes to the diversity of students, the needs of English Language Learners, and the importance of integrating perspectives from multiple backgrounds into the classroom to develop students in our global community. I'm lucky to be able to work and travel with my wife, Lindsay, who is currently teaching grade 1, and we have two young cats at home. I coach Cross Country and enjoy running on the trails of Macau and Hong Kong in my spare time.
